D.C. Dental Society Foundation Grants & Awards

The D.C. Dental Society Foundation provides a limited number of grants each year to support dental education and programs aimed at improving dental care to the underserved in Washington, D.C. Organizations interested in applying for a Foundation grant should complete the DCDS Foundation Grant Form and submit it to the D.C. Dental Society Executive Director for consideration.

The Foundation recognizes individual members and community leaders through its esteemed awards which are presented at the D.C. Dental Society’s annual awards dinner held the first Tuesday of June. Below is a list of the awards that the Foundation supports.

Community Spirit Award

The Community Spirit Award is given to a D.C. Dental Society member who has supported the underserved in the District of Columbia by devotion of time and/or expertise, through partnership with others in the dental community, or by generous donation. Recipients of this award have demonstrated one or more of the following:
  • Devotion of time and expertise in improving the oral health of our community
  • Leadership in the creation of effective partnerships that have resulted in increased access and/or improvement in dental care in our community
  • Advocate for oral health and disease prevention in our community
  • Volunteer of both time and expertise in treating the underserved within our community
  • Generosity in financial support to programs that fund oral health initiatives in our community

Humanitarian Award

The Humanitarian Award is given to an individual or group/organization that has supported programs for the underserved and demonstrated by their acts or accomplishments concern for mankind and for the alleviation of suffering. Recipients of this award have demonstrated one or more of the following:
  • Devotion of time and expertise in improving the well-being and oral health of national or international communities
  • Creation of effective partnerships with organizations, nationally or globally, that advocate for health access and improvement with an emphasis on oral health
  • Advocate for oral health and disease prevention, nationally or globally
  • Volunteer of both time and expertise in treating underserved populations, nationally or globally
  • Generosity in financial support to programs that fund oral health initiatives, nationally or globally
